We have a number of wonderful opportunities for you to study and improve your stitching skills coming up, whether you're a complete beginner or a prize-winning needle artist. What follows is an overview of what's on for the season so you can plan ahead. We regret that some of the classes are already filled, but if you are interested, let us know and we will do our best to accommodate you if a place becomes available.
Every Tuesday morning, beginning at 9:30 am, Lisa Hawkins teaches a beginners' basics class. No reservation needed! She also provides coaching and assistance throughout the rest of the day for a nominal fee, schedule permitting. You work on your piece at your pace under Lisa's friendly guidance.
We are very fortunate to have Susan Portra here with us in paradise twice a year - in October and February. Susan is a popular national teacher and needle artist extraordinaire. Her Bring Your Canvas to Life class offers a unique perspective on canvas embellishment, taking into account a number of design elements in her approach to stitching a painted canvas. Students choose their own canvases for class. Each custom stitch guide Susan writes in real time follows her method and she adjusts it for a student's skills, experience and preferences. Students benefit by learning not only from their own pieces but from their classmates' as well. Susan also schedules private sessions. Reservations required.
Brenda Stofft's canvas designs are very popular here in paradise, and she will be joining us in November to teach her Artemis Bunny class. "Artie," as he is affectionately known, combines various kinds of needlework techniques and materials. Borrowing from other disciplines such as ribbon embroidery, stumpwork and felting, Artie is not just another needlepoint bunny, he is a friend for life! Class fee includes all materials as well as instruction. Reservations required.
Our own Anne Freiburger will be teaching two fun classes here in March - a cute Santa by The Artists Collection and an elegant star by Whimsy and Grace. Stitchers from advanced beginner and up will work with decorative stitches, a variety of threads, beads and other embellishment techniques. Classes meet for one session - dates to be announced. Reservations required.
Tony Minieri shares his passion for needle art here with us in March. Back by popular demand, he teaches each three-day class with a focus on bringing the best out of the students and the projects they've chosen. Tony writes the stitch guides in advance and we assemble the canvases, threads and accoutrements so that each piece has been kitted by the time class begins. Tony shares his knowledge of a variety of techniques and stitches that he has studied and developed over many years using students' pieces as examples. Reservations required.
Bottom line: it's best to call early! Classes fill quickly, materials have to be ordered in advance, and we don't want you to be disappointed.
